Professor Emeritus, School of Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing, University of Glasgow

I was in administrative charge of one of the four general medical units in Glasgow Royal Infirmary and overall spent more than 30 years as an NHS teaching hospital consultant. In 2007, I became an honorary professor of medicine in Glasgow University.

I have been involved in Continuing Education and recently published a paper, A Culture of Learning for the NHS, in the Journal of European CME, of which I am the founding Editor-in-Chief.

I was president of the European Board for Accreditation in Pneumology (CME accreditation) from 2003 to 2008. From 2006 to 2012, I served on a task force of the European Accreditation Council for CME in order to formulate new criteria for CME accreditation.

I have given talks on academic aspects on Continuing Education in Educational Seminars of the European Respiratory Society, at the Cologne Consensus Conference on CME and at the annual European CME Forum. In 2018, along with my colleague Professor Don Moore of the Vanderbilt School of Medicine in US, I published a a viewpoint article on CME in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
