Rodrigo Brincalepe Salvador

Curator of Invertebrates, Te Papa Tongarewa

I am a biologist and paleontologist and my main research interest is terrestrial gastropods – the land snails. I am interested in describing the world’s land snails and in understanding their evolutionary relationships, fossil record, and biogeographic history. Thus, I work with both fossil and living animals, in the areas of taxonomy /systematics, paleoecology and biogeography; and my work with recent animals is often relevant for conservation efforts.

I firmly believe that one of researchers’ main goals is (or should be) to transmit science to the public, so I’m often involved in science communication and outreach. My other interests span ornithology, archaeology (especially Egyptology), mythology, and general geek culture.
