My doctoral research focuses on better understanding the tidal stream resource, a powerful, predictable, renewable source of energy that is yet to be properly harnessed.

I am particularly interested in understanding variations in turbulent intensity throughout the water column under varying tidal and wave conditions. Turbulence can have adverse effects on turbine performance but its variation is currently poorly understood with respect to wave-current interaction.

I have conducted numerous experiments in the hypertidal Humber Estuary during calm and stormy conditions using ADCP and DWR technologies. A timelapse of some of my fieldwork can be watched here:
