Rowan Nicholson joined Flinders University in 2021. In the past, he has served as co-director of the Sydney Centre for International Law at the University of Sydney and has worked on cases before the International Court of Justice about genocide and border disputes. He did his doctorate at the University of Cambridge. His book Statehood and the State-Like in International Law (Oxford University Press, 2019) presents a new theory about which political entities have rights and duties in international law, drawing on colonial legal history.
