Roxana Pessoa Cavalcanti

Lecturer in Criminology, University of Westminster

Roxana is a lecturer in Criminology at the University of Westminster. She has a PhD in Brazilian Studies from King's College London, where she was funded by the ESRC to examine the dynamic effects of public security policies and youth violence in Brazil.

During her PhD she conducted an ethnographic study in Brazil's low-income communities and in government institutions. She was also a research fellow at the Kluge Center, Library of Congress (US), where she was funded by the AHRC to explore archival documents about international police assistance.

Her previous research focused on the politics of gun control and issues affecting young people's connections and disconnections to their communities. She has a masters in Criminology and a BA (Hons) in Criminology and Applied Psychology from the University of Brighton (UK).
