Assistant Professor of Music Education, Michigan State University

Ryan Shaw is assistant professor of music education at Michigan State University’s College of Music, where he teaches Introduction to Music Education, Teaching Instrumental Music, and graduate courses in psychology of music education, curriculum, and measurement. Prior to joining Michigan State University, Shaw was area head of music education at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. Shaw has presented research at the AERA Annual Meeting, the NAfME In-Service Conference, the NAfME Teacher Education and Research Conference, the Society for Music Teacher Education Symposium, the Midwest Clinic, the IMTE Biennial Colloquium, the Desert Skies Symposium on Research in Music Education, and the International Symposium on the Philosophy of Music Education. He has also been published in the Journal of Research in Music Education, Arts Education Policy Review, the Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education, Music Educators Journal, and Contributions to Music Education. Shaw is also active in professional organizations. He serves on the editorial board for Music Educators Journal, Arts Education Policy Review, and Contributions to Music Education. Shaw also serves as secretary/treasurer for the American Educational Research Association Music Education Special Interest Group and is the Government Relations Committee Coordinator for the Michigan Music Education Association.
