Sally Thorne

Dr. Thorne is a Professor at the University of British Columbia School of Nursing with a longstanding program of research in the field of patient experience in chronic illness and cancer care. She also has pioneered qualitative methodological developments for application to the knowledge needs of the applied and practice disciplines, including the integration of patient perspectives into evidence based care. Editor-in-Chief of the journal Nursing Inquiry, and a Fellow of both the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences and the American Academy of Nursing, Thorne has been inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame, received the Canadian Nursing Association’s highest honour – the Jeanne Mance Award, and awarded honorary degrees from Queen’s University and Université Laval.
