Sanjay Lala

Professor Sanjay Lala is a paediatric gastroenterologist and general paediatrician working at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital. After completing his undergraduate and paediatric training in Johannesburg, he completed his doctoral studies at University College London and was awarded a CICRA (Crohn’s in Childhood Research Association) research fellowship at the Royal Free and University College Medical School. Apart from his clinical duties as a paediatric gastroenterologist, he is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. His main passion, however, is research and his major research interests include childhood tuberculosis, innate mucosal immunity and Paneth cell biology.
