Assistant professor, Akita International University

Satoko Horii is assistant professor of Global Studies Program at Akita International University, Japan. Her academic interest is in the governance on human movement, with a focus on border control and irregular migration. Her recent project analyses the evolving nature of the EU border management by looking at the EU Agency Frontex, based on her research fieldwork in Europe, including research internship experience at Frontex.

She holds a DPhil in Politics from the University of Sussex. Previously, she read for a MSc in Forced Migration at the University of Oxford and a MA in International and Public Administration at Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo. Before starting her postgraduate study, she worked for the Embassy of Japan in Mexico as an administrative and logistics assistant.
