Professor of Health Sciences, Simon Fraser University

I’m a Professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia. I have been conducting research in the prevention and management of heart disease for over 20 years focusing on supporting healthy lifestyles and improving access to timely health care. I hold the Pfizer/Heart and Stroke Foundation Chair in Cardiovascular Prevention Research at St. Paul’s Hospital and I am also a member of the Division of Cardiology at Providence Health Care. In February 2017 I was diagnosed with heart disease, and in December 2021 I was diagnosed with major depressive disorder, which added a new personal perspective to my research and greater understanding of the challenges patients face on a daily basis.

I write a biweekly blog on healthy living based on the latest science called Become Your Healthiest You (www.drscottlear.com) and co-host the monthly podcast How to Health (find it on Spotify).
