Sean graduated from Queen's University Belfast in 2009 with an LLB (Hons) Law . In 2011, he attained an LLM in International Business and Commercial Law from Liverpool John Moore's. Sean also holds an LLM International Human Rights Law and Transitional Justice from the Transitional Justice Institute, University of Ulster. On completion of his master’s degree, Sean was awarded a full PhD scholarship at the University of Edinburgh under the supervision of Professor Christine Bell and Professor Emilius Avgouleas. His research focused on business and peacebuilding. During this period Sean also taught on a number of course at Edinburgh Law School.

Sean has worked as a researcher on the Political Settlements Research Project, University of Edinburgh, helping to create the PA-X Database on peace agreements. He took up his position as research associate at Newcastle Law School in October 2018. Sean's research interests are in international law, international human rights law, business and human rights, and peace agreements.
