Sibongile Muthwa

Dr. Sibongile Muthwa holds a PhD from SOAS, University of London. Her other academic qualifications include an MSc in Development Policy and Planning (LSE), BA Honours (Wits) and BA in Social Work (UFH).

She has a distinguished career both in South Africa and the United Kingdom where she has worked in both the development and public sector institutions, as well as in academia. Between 2004 and 2010 she served as Director General of the Eastern Cape Provincial Government. Before joining government, she was Director of the Fort Hare Institute of Government, University of Fort Hare for five years.

Dr Muthwa served in a number Boards and Committees, including, the Joint Universities Public Management Education Trust (Chairperson) and Applied Fiscal Review Centre (AfreC).

Dr. Muthwa currently Chairs the Board of Seriti Institute and also serves in Boards of the SA Women in Dialogue Trust; University Sports Company; and Curro Holdings, among others. She also serves in an advisory capacity to the Programme to Support Pro-poor Policy Development in South Africa, a programme of the National Planning Commission. She is a regular coach for the Business Women’s Association, where she mentors young and aspiring businesswomen.

In 2014 she was appointed as a Commissioner for the Financial and Fiscal Commission (FFC).
