Sophie Roborgh

Sophie Roborgh holds a BA and MA in Arabic and Islam from Radboud University Nijmegen, the Netherlands, and a MSc in Theory and History of International Relations from the London School of Economics, UK. She is currently awaiting her PhD viva at the University of Cambridge in the Department of Politics and International Studies.

Fascinated by the difficult position of local physicians in the Arab Spring uprisings, Sophie's research pieces together the politicisation of medicine in times of conflict and political unrest. Her PhD focused on the breakdown of medical neutrality in the Egyptian uprising, in which she tested a different, interdisciplinary approach towards studying the dynamics of violence against local health workers. Her post-doctoral project, supported by the Economic and Social Research Council's Future Research Leaders Scheme, will look at these dynamics by adopting a comparative perspective.

In addition to her time in academia, Sophie has also worked for several years as a strategic analyst at The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies and the Adviesraad Wetenschap, Technologie en Innovatie (AWTI) in the Netherlands, and collaborated with a number of other national and international think tanks.
