Stephen Flowerday

Professor of Information Systems, Rhodes University

I am currently a Professor in the Department of Information Systems at Rhodes University. I am also the Head of Department. I hold a BSc and an MBA, as well as a PhD (IT). My research interests lie in the field of cybersecurity, behavioural information security, and information security management.
Over the last fifteen years, I have authored and co-authored more than 100 refereed publications and have presented papers in various countries. Furthermore, I am a reviewer for conference publications, an editor and reviewer for several academic journals, and I serve on various panels of the South African National Research Foundation (NRF). In 2019 I was invited by the Scottish Informatics and Computer Science Alliance (SICSA) as a Distinguished Visiting Fellow to Scotland, where I gave guest lectures and met with doctoral students and staff concerning their research.
In my previous employment, I served as Head of Department for five years, followed by Deputy Dean for Research and Internationalisation in the Faculty of Management and Commerce. In 2014, I received the University’s Vice-Chancellor’s Senior Researcher Award (Institutional).
Among others, I am a Fellow of the British Computer Society (FBCS), a Council member of the South African Institute of Computer Scientists and Information Technologists (SAICSIT), and a member Association for Information Systems (AIS).
