tuart has wide ranging research interests. His main area of focus is in uncovering strategies to counteract the age related loss of muscle mass, known as sarcopenia, and associated metabolic disorders. Recent research has focussed on the combined effects of resistance exercise and omega-3 fatty acids. He also attempts to used novel analytical techniques to further our understanding of the mechanisms underlying sarcopenia. Other areas of interest include the potential for high intensity interval training to be a useful public health tool and he also works with collaborators in Aberdeen to uncover the aetiology of fatigue in rheumatic conditions.
