Researcher, Development and Gender Studies, University of British Columbia

Sumeet Sekhon is a researcher at the University of British Columbia - Okanagan. Her research evaluates the impact of self-help group-based microcredit programmes on the lives of women in North India. More specifically, she uses qualitative research methods to examine whether women self-help group members experience a reduction in poverty, and an improvement in their status within the household as well as the society at large, due to their participation in microcredit programmes. She also examines the interplay of poverty, caste, and gender on the formation and functioning of self-help groups.
