Associate professor, Stellenbosch University

Tania Ajam teaches public financial management at the University of Stellenbosch School of Public Leadership. She is public policy analyst and an economist with broad experience in the design, analysis and implementation of fiscal policy, intergovernmental fiscal relations and government-wide monitoring and evaluation systems. She holds a Masters in Business Science from the University of Cape Town and a PhD (Public Management) from the University of Pretoria. She has held several directorships in both private and public sectors, including the Reserve Bank of South Africa. She was the CEO of the Applied Fiscal Research Centre (Pty) Ltd, a research-based training and consulting company affiliated to the University of Cape Town, from 1999 to 2011. She served on the Financial and Fiscal Commission for a decade as a Commissioner until 2014, and chaired its Research Committee. She has been a Senior Advisor at the Government Technical Advisory Centre (GTAC) in the National Treasury and a member of the Davis Tax Review Committee.
