Timothy M. Smith

Professor of Sustainable Systems Management & International Business, University of Minnesota

Dr. Timothy M. Smith is professor of sustainable systems management and international business at the University of Minnesota, where he is also director of the NorthStar Initiative for Sustainable Enterprise. Tim is an internationally recognized expert in the development and application of environmental and social accounting methods in long-term planning and operational decision-making. Through his career, he has held the rotating chair in sustainable entrepreneurship at Wageningen University, Netherlands and served on the faculty at INCAE Business School in Costa Rica. Tim is a former AT&T Industrial Ecology Fellow and has advised the Environmental Protection Agency’s Environmentally Preferable Purchasing Program, the General Services Administration’s Greening the Federal Government Roundtable, the National Research Council’s Committee on Certification of Sustainable Products and Services, and numerous companies and organizations on supply chain sustainability and product-based policies.
