Senior Curator of Australian National Fish Collection, CSIRO

I am the Senior Curator of the Australian National Fish Collection at CSIRO in Hobart, Australia. I have 20 years’ experience researching the ecology, biogeography, taxonomy and utilisation of sharks and rays, primarily in the Indo-Pacific region. I have a strong taxonomic background, having authored more than 70 new shark and ray species descriptions and published 5 species guides. I also have a strong focus on shark and ray fisheries in developing nations, primarily Indonesian and Papua New Guinea. I am a longstanding member of the IUCN’s Shark Specialist Group, including as co-Chair for Taxonomy on the Executive Committee for a number of years
