Wolfgang Cramer

Le Professeur Wolfgang Cramer, géographe, écologue, modélisateur de la dynamique des écosystèmes globaux, est directeur de recherche a l’Institut méditerranéen de biodiversité et d’écologie marine et continentale (IMBE) basé à Aix-en-Provence, Marseille et Avignon (France).

Wolfgang Cramer a réalisé sa formation académique à l’Université de Gießen en Allemagne (Diplôme de géographie en 1981) et celle d’Uppsala en Suède (Doctorat en écologie végétale, en 1986). De 1987 à 1993, il a enseigné et réalisé sa recherche au Département de géographie, de l’Université Trondheim en Norvège. A la même époque il était également fréquemment présent en tant que chercheur associé à l’Institut international pour l’analyse des systèmes appliquées (IIASA) de Laxenburg en Autriche. En 1992, il a rejoint le Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK, Potsdam, Allemagne) nouvellement crée en tant que Chef du Département “Changements globaux et systèmes naturels”. En 2003 il a été nommé Professeur d’écologie globale à l’Université de Potsdam. En 2011, il a quitté l’Allemagne pour sa position actuelle a l’Institut Méditerranéen de Biodiversité et d’Ecologie (IMBE) a Aix-en-Provence, France. Depuis 1995, il a participé de manière continue au Groupe d'experts intergouvernemental sur l'évolution du climat (GIEC). En 2017, il a été élu membre associé de l’Académie d’Agriculture de France.

Professor Dr Wolfgang Cramer, environmental geographer and global ecologist, is research director (CNRS) at the Mediterranean Institute for Biodiversity and Ecology (IMBE), in Aix-en-Provence, Marseille and Avignon (France).

Wolfgang Cramer received his academic training at the Universities of Gießen/Germany (geography, diploma 1981) and Uppsala/Sweden (plant ecology, Ph.D. 1986). From 1987 to 1993, he taught and conducted his research at the Department of Geography, Trondheim University (Norway) while also being a frequently visiting scholar at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA, Laxenburg, Austria). In 1992, he joined the newly founded Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) in Potsdam, Germany, as head of the department “Global Change and Natural Systems”, later to become the institute’s research domain “Earth System Analysis”. In 2003, he was appointed full professor of global ecology at Potsdam University. In 2011, he left Potsdam for his present position. Since 1995, he has continuously been involved in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climatic Change (IPCC). 2017, he was elected associated member of the Académie d’Agriculture de France.
