Progress on crowd-funding campaign: can you help?

I’d like to update you on our crowd-funding activities following last week’s decision by the Australian Government to end funding for The Conversation. At $1m, that represents a 25% loss to our budget.

We asked if you might help… and we’ve been blown away by your generosity with 1,000 readers donating online $190,000. We are working hard on alternative funding initiatives, though they will take some time to come through. So to buy us some time, we ask those of you who haven’t yet contributed to help us reach $300,000.

As you know, we are an independent and not-for-profit project. We do not push ideological or commercial agendas. Our content is free to all, we have no paywall, and we don’t charge the 19,000 websites globally that republish our content. We simply want to get good, evidence-based content out as widely as possible.

And to remind you, The Conversation’s sites in the US, UK and Africa are all independently funded by universities and foundations in those countries.

But as the “mother-ship” we must meet the costs of our 32 Australian staff plus our running costs.

So your contribution is critical at this time. You can sign up for a recurring monthly donation, or just give what you can afford now. Please also forward this on to your networks and encourage them to support.

We are not-for-profit with DGR status so your support is tax deductible. https://donate.theconversation.com/
