Reframing pro-environmental rhetoric may turn conservatives ‘green’

Political conservatives respond better to rhetoric about the sanctity of the environment than other arguments in favour of ecological protection.

A study found while those who identify as conservatives are less concerned about the environment than their progressive counterparts, their motivation increases reading articles stressing the need to protect the “purity” and “sanctity” of the environment.

    Purity and sanctity suggest an original condition. That may appeal to a conservative's desire to resist change. So describing environmental issues in that light may lead to attitude change.

    Doing as your ancestors have done since time immemorial works for most animals, most of the time. It requires minimal thinking, minimal understanding, having been demonstrated to have survival value.

    Such non-cognisant, unenlightened conservatism, however, is a maladaptation to changing circumstances.

    Climate change is a consequence of innovations introduced more than one generation ago, so that appropriately responding to climate change is problematic for these conservatives.

    What a biizarre article to write, this seems like yet another case of High IQ, induced arrogance!,
    Is there a link between IQ, intelligence and broad rational thought, I find myself doubting that there is.
    I have seen too many articles and comments, that encompass, narrowly focused, pejorative, and isolated thinking.
