Scientists plot the evolution of trees

Scientists have used a process called functional phylogenomics to chart the evolutionary relationships between 150 plants species.

The process allows scientists to reconstruct the pattern of events that led to the evolution of different plant species, helping to understand the origins of the incredible diversity of plants today, and possibly identify genes to help improve seed quality.

Scientists picked 150 species from all of major seed plant groups, and were able to identify the genes behind the evolution of seeds.
