Sex and personality influence lizards’ learning

The sex and personality of lizards can influence their learning ability, new research shows.

Spatial learning in male and female Eastern Water Skinks was measured, as was their personality. Male lizards were better at spatial learning than females, while the shy and bold individuals were the best learners.

The Macquarie University researchers hypothesise that male lizards fare better at spatial awareness because they spend time defending territory and searching for females.
