Solar Panel efficiency improved by 30%

Silicon on solar panelling has been replaced by dye-sensitised solar cells (DSSCs) to turn light energy into Niobia – an environmentally friendly metal-oxide, improving panel efficiency by at least 30%.

This technique is widely used in industries generating hard coatings and glazed surfaces, but has rarely been used for this application.

PhD student Jian Zhen Ou from RMIT led four other universities in the revolutionary study, from Australia, the US, and Korea.
