Superbug a concern for pets, not just humans

Antibiotic-resistant superbugs in pets is a global health concern. The good news is a national survey reveals the bug is yet to make it to Australia.

Antibiotic-resistant bacteria has been identified in dogs overseas.

To prevent the bug spreading to companion and production animals in Australia, tight controls need to be implemented. To stop resistance developing, use of very strongest class of antibiotic treatment in animals needs to be used only as a last resort.
