Teenage brain matures with onset of puberty

Researchers using electroencephalogram (EEG) measures of the brain have found a link between the parts of the brain that control behaviour and reproduction, indicating that maturing is time-linked to the progression of puberty.

The finding could lead to developments in studying brain abnormalities and contribute to recognising mental illness such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorde,r which commonly emerge in adolescence.
