Treating emotional trauma as important as physical in burns victims

Treating the emotional scars of children’s burns is just as important as treating physical scars according to a new study.

The study found that one in five parents of children who had suffered burns reported symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder that affected their daily lives.

Researcher Dr Sarah McGarry said keeping parents and children informed about their recovery was one way of decreasing anxiety.
