Most of Europe will experience higher warming than the global average if Earth’s surface temperatures rise to 2C above pre-industrial levels, a new study shows.
The three year climate study by 27 different institutions reveals the continent could see average temperatures rise by 1 to 5C by the end of the century - higher than calculations made by the United Nations’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
Researcher Robert Vautard said a warmer Europe could expect to receive more frequent downpours and heatwaves and droughts in the continent’s south.
