Watched households use less energy

People use less energy when they know they’re being monitored according to a Pennsylvania University study.

Just under 6000 homes were studied. Half were unaware their energy consumption was being monitored; the other half had been notified.

Houses notified their electricity consumption was being monitored used 2.7% less energy than their uninformed counterparts.
