Stress and caffeine linked to hallucinations

Coffee and other caffeinated beverages such as tea, soft-drinks and energy drinks, when taken in large quantities, increases people’s tendencies to hallucinate, particularly in stressful situations.

The combination of caffeine and stress affects the likelihood of an individual experiencing a psychosis-like symptom.

Five coffees a day or more is enough to increase a person’s tendency to hallucinate, according to researchers at La Trobe University.
