A new catalyst for ethanol

A new catalyst material that could replace chemicals currently derived from petroleum has been developed.

The catalyst will convert bio-ethanol into a chemical called isobutene in one production step, which should also reduce costs.

“Isobutene is a versatile chemical that could expand the applications for sustainably produced bio-ethanol,” chemical engineer Yong Wang said.
