Being bullied at primary school has a direct effect on how likely a teenager is to self-harm, researchers at the Universities of Warwick and Bristol have found.
The study of 5000 participants found that people bullied when aged 5-7 were 5 times as likely to self-harm when 16-17 years old.
The researchers believe early clinical intervention during childhood could be crucial to preventing future self-harm.
