Recent research in Tasmania’s Derwent River has found an overwhelming number of introduced species, with some areas completely free of native fish.
The study found that the area had been more severely affected by humans than Melbourne’s Port Phillip Bay or Sydney Harbour.
The study recorded all the fish species and larger invertebrates (such as sea stars, sea urchins and sea shells) on areas of rocky reef within the Derwent Estuary.
