‘Illustrated and written by...’:

A virtual exhibition of International Illustration Research

DEADLINE for submissions: 30th May 2023

Exhibition Launch: Professor Alan Male, October 2023

CALL FOR ENTRIES:

Into the 21st century, a criticality in the framing of illustration as a unique discipline with its own research methods and approaches is required for the field to transcend professional practice. In its anamorphous state, illustration practice crosses multiple boundaries of traditional academic disciplines and professional disciplines. Illustration sits outside the gallery and academy,as implicit professional practice embedded in our everyday. This exhibition is an open international call for researchers to showcase and assist in recognising illustration practice as non-traditional research, helping to build a stronger narrative for the recognition of illustration as research. This exhibition is interested in publishing diverse transnational perspectives on illustration research.

*PhD students are encouraged to submit.

Submissions that showcase and constitute ‘research’ will be peer-reviewed for inclusion in the gallery. Limited to Illustration research undertaken in 2021 and 2022. Work that explores contemporary approaches to practice-based/practice-led illustration research, as non-traditional research.

You will be invited to engage in a double blind-peer review of research statements (800-1000 words) and creative works.

Final works will be included in a catalogue and recieve an individually registered DOI. Please submit your research statement and creative work by 30th May 2023.
