Binge drinking cuts new brain cells by up to 40%

Moderate drinkers who become binge drinkers can decrease their number of new brain cells by as much as 40%, new research shows.

In the long term this behaviour can profoundly affect structural plasticity of the adult brain because these new cells communicate with other neurons to regulate brain health. This impacts on learning and memory.
