Crocs are smarter than you think

Crocodiles use strategic moves to lure their prey according to new research by The University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

The study observed two species of crocodiles — muggers and American alligators — that used sticks to lure birds, especially during nest building season. The crocodiles were found to lie in shallow water with a stick on their snout and then lunge at birds they attracted.

The study, which is the first to report tool use by reptiles, suggests crocodiles are more advanced in hunting tactics than previously thought.
