Drawing the world’s best genetic map

Researchers have constructed the world’s most detailed genetic map, including, for the first time, data from African Americans.

Genetic maps specify areas in the genetic material of a sperm or egg where the DNA from the mother and father were “shuffled” to produce the resultant cell.

The new genetic map will help scientists to understand certain inherited diseases – diseases that are the result of genetic mutations.
