From the editor: The Conversation needs your help

Dear Reader,

I’m writing to ask that you make a donation to The Conversation. We need your help to raise a quarter of our annual budget over the next two weeks.

Your support will help us make new thinking and evidence-based research available to everyone, not just a select few.

Our mission is to publish the work of scientists and researchers for a wide audience. At The Conversation, professional journalists work with academics to help them communicate their ideas clearly. We publish analysis and research as well as podcasts, videos, animations and infographics — all in language that a 16-year-old can understand.

We create this work because we believe that clean information is as vital to democracy as clean water is to health. Especially now, as media failure turbocharges shrill debate and corrodes trust in experts, the very people with the most to bring to the table.

Our rigorous journalism is having a positive impact on public debate in Australia. Articles have been quoted in parliament. Peer-reviewed FactChecks have made politicians and public figures more circumspect about outlandish claims. Our Curious Kids articles are teaching children about the wonders of the world.

As a reader I know you care about quality information and understand and value our mission. We give a voice to experts and democratise knowledge. We do this as a charity. Without advertising. Without paywalls. Without profiteering.

Please invest in experts by investing in us. Help to keep facts free, so we don’t end up in a world of information haves and have-nots.

Please make a tax-deductible donation today.

Thanks for your help and for making a difference.
