Fruit and vegetables may help to combat drug addiction

Resveratrol is a compound found naturally in coloured vegetables and fruits, especially grapes. Research has found it may be able to lessen the effect of the drug methamphetamine, which is highly addictive.

The compound is already being used to minimise the impact of Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease in people who already have a healthy diet, with resveratrol supplements.

Resveratrol can be effective in regulating the dopamine neurons that make methamphetamine so addictive.
