Hybrid power plants a step toward green power

Hybrid cars have been a fixture on our roads for a number of years but we could soon be seeing the development of hybrid power plants.

New technology developed by Israeli researchers combines the use of conventional fuel with the lower pressures and temperatures of steam produced by solar power. Combining fuel sources in this way could replace 25-50% of the fuel used in power plants with green energy.

The steam-injection gas turbine is not an entirely “green” solution to power production but, according to researchers, it’s a more realistic option in the short to medium term.
