Infections in medical devices due to bacterial biofilm

Researchers have developed a new understanding of how bacteria intrude into implanted medical devices.

The bacteria cells stick together on the surface of the device, such as a catheter, and form a biofilm, which is highly resistant to antibiotics and the immune defences.

The work will help produce new ways to treat infectious diseases against the rise of resistant superbugs.
