Nanodiamonds make for better artificial joints

A “nanodiamond” coating could be used to create longer-lasting and less-painful artificial joints.

When existing artificial joints wear down they often shed metal debris which is absorbed by the body’s immune cells. This can cause a range of adverse health effects, including pain and joint failure.

By applying a nanodiamond coating to the artificial joints, the shedding of metal debris can be reduced.
