Online bullying on the rise in Australia

Online bullying has rapidly increased in Australia, with one in five young Australians experiencing cyberbulling each year.

Researchers from the University of New South Wales analysed existing academic research along with data from police and community legal advice bodies.

The majority of cyberbulling cases were handled by schools, but serious cases were dealt with by police.

72% of schools reported at least one incident of cyberbullying in 2013.

Online bullying has been linked to depression, anxiety, low self-esteem and mental health issues.
