My research interests are in genre and popular fiction of the long nineteenth century, particularly as they concern class, the gaze, body theory, and medicine and science in literature. I've published work on Gothic literature, sensation fiction, the 'silver fork' novels, penny-fiction, post-apocalyptic literature, Ruritanian romances, and other genre and popular fiction from the years 1789-1914.
