Independent Max Planck research Group Leader, Max Planck Institute of Geoanthropology

I am environmental historian working at the crossroads of history, earth science and biology. I received education in history and psychology at the universities of Warsaw and Oxford. I published two cross-disciplinary historical monographs and dozens of articles in journals from across different disciplines. My individual focus and expertise as a historian falls within the periods of Antiquity and the Middle Ages in Europe and the broader Mediterranean, but I have worked extensively with specialists in the early modern times as well, and I taught university courses taking more global perspectives. I currently lead an interidisciplinary research group working on European economic, climate and disease history in the Late Holocene.
