Afaanwi Che started his academic career in Swansea University, UK, where he obtained his PhD in international relations in 2015. His teaching and research interests have led him to universities in different countries, including the US, Nigeria, South Africa and Uganda, where he served as deputy director of postgraduate studies in Kampala International University prior to joining XJTLU in March 2021. His current research interests focus on China-Africa relations and pedagogic strategies for promoting intercultural peace. He is a 2019 recipient of the China-Africa Research Initiative fellowship at Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies. He regularly contributes to coding data for the Varieties of Democracy (V-Dem) Index, the world’s largest democracy measurement project. Che's work has featured in various outlets, including Peace and Conflict Review, Peace and Conflict Studies, International Journal on World Peace, Journal of Asian and African Studies, and Journal of Political Science Education. He welcomes PhD supervision and research collaboration in the following fields: China-Africa relations, African Politics, IR Theory, and Peace and Conflict Studies
