I am a Senior Lecturer and Clinical Academic of Cardiovascular Physiology, in the Health and Wellbeing Academy at Swansea University. I qualified as an NHS Cardiac Physiologist in 2008 and specialise in Echocardiography. I am part of clinical team, lead by Dr Emma Rees, that provides a Primary Care Echocardiography Service for the Swansea Bay Health board.
I joined the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences at Swansea University in October 2023. Before joining Swansea University, I completed my Ph.D. at Cardiff Metropolitan University, entitled "The Chimpanzee Heart: Defining the normal cardiac phenotype and understanding the influence of anesthesia and the captive environment". Through my research over the past 10 years I have completed cardiovascular investigations of non-human primates, humans and other animals, for two main aims. Firstly, to further understand the normal physiology of these species and secondly, to elucidate the mechanisms and mediators of cardiovascular disease. I am interested in how the cardiovascular system adapts for different environments and its vulnerability to disease through evolutionary mismatch.
