PhD Student, Geography, University of Guelph

Informed by her Master's work with a focus in food literacy and her work as a Policy Analyst in the federal government, Alicia's research examines food literacy and pedagogies through a food systems lens. Specifically, her research explores how food literacy, if broadly conceptualized, can be a tool to empower citizens and policymakers to build more resilient, sustainable and equitable food systems. Since most food literacy and food system education approaches work rather disparately, Alicia's work helps to bring them together, which will be helpful for governments to implement coherent approaches for food literacy policies. In her Master's, Alicia's research was focused on food literacy in Ontario, but has a broader focus across provinces for her PhD.
