Junior research fellow in virus evolution, University of Oxford

Evolutionary biologist with a background in genetics and genomics. My research is in the young field of paleovirology, where we study host genomes to describe and analyse the ancient remnants of viral infection. I am particularly interested in the long-term evolutionary dynamics of the virus-host relationship. Both viruses and hosts are known to 'steal' genes from one another in a kind of 'evolutionary short-cut', which helps them find innovative ways to attack/defend themselves. I think thats pretty cool, and I want to find out more about how it works!
